Mansfield Makes Sense for the New GM
Dear Friends-
We're at a critical time in our community. GM has announced that it intends to close the Mansfield-Ontario Metal Stamping Center, even though it is the most productive, lowest cost and most efficient plant within GM. That doesn't make sense .. and we need to let the highest levels of people within the company and within the state and federal governement know:
Mansfield Makes Sense for the New GM.
The cost to our community will be devastating- 1,200 of our friends and neighbors out of work. Suppliers and businesses throughout the area likely will be shut down as well, throwing even more people out of their jobs. Community organizations, churches and educational institutions will see reduced revenues and have to cut services. Government will lose giant portions of their tax collections and have to cut back even more on services.
But this doesn't have to be. By all objective measures, the Mansfield-Ontario Metal Center is the lowest cost, most productive plant in GM. The workers are the model for the Teamwork initiative within GM and they have the most Competitive Operating Agreement within GM. We need to support the campaign to get GM to realize that Mansfield Makes Sense for the New GM.
We've organized a group of officials, community leaders and plant workers to lead the campaign. Our newly established website is www.mansfieldmakessense.org We'll be holding meetings, conducting rallies and helping tell the Mansfield story better to GM and to our elected governement officials. After all, we- the taxpayers- own most of GM now and we need to be sure their decisions are being made fairly, openly and honestly.
We urge you to act now and support this entire region. We all probably know someone who works at or is connected to the plant in some fashion. Let them know you support them. Write a letter to the GM CEO to ask him to take a closer look at the facts that support our case. Contact your state and federal officials to ask them to join Senator Sherrod Brown in this effort and get GM to slow down the process long enough to get some answers.
You CAN make a difference ... but time is running short. Check our website for additional suggestions of how you can help and invest a little bit of time to help in your community.
